Kelly Shannahan recently graduated from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law, where she earned her J.D. with an emphasis in family law. Before law school, she studied Justice Systems at Truman State University, where she developed a strong interest in advocacy and working directly with clients.
During law school, Kelly served as the sole student worker at the UMKC Child and Family Services Clinic, where she helped families navigate guardianship and paternity cases in Missouri’s courts. That experience deepened her commitment to public interest work and gave her practical, hands-on legal experience. Her work there was recognized with the Child and Family Services Clinic Award, given to a student who demonstrates exceptional dedication to the clinic’s mission and clients.
Kelly’s approach to the law is client-centered and practical. She believes in making the legal process as clear and manageable as possible, especially for those who may be overwhelmed or unfamiliar with it. No matter the issue, she aims to be a reliable, approachable advocate who meets people where they are and helps them move forward.
Outside of work, you can catch her playing volleyball, training her dog, watching reality TV, and spending time with her family.
